Victoria is the natural home for the development and construction of military vehicles with more than 200 companies involved in land defence systems in Victoria. With significant capabilities in military vehicle engineering, design and manufacturing, Victoria has a proven capability to develop and produce programs such as the LAND 400 project.
LAND 400 is the next generation of Armoured Fighting Vehicles (AFV) with firepower, protection and mobility. LAND 400 will deliver enhanced levels of survivability to the Joint Land Force, including sensors, weapons and information systems which will be networked to strategic intelligent platforms.
Victoria has proven expertise in the development, manufacture and upgrade of military vehicles, including the M113, Supacat High Mobility Vehicle, RMMV HX Trucks, Bushmaster and Hawkei. In addition, Victoria has a depth of capability in electronic systems that are integral to modern military vehicles, including companies like Elbit Systems of Australia and Techtonica. With its advanced manufacturing, world class research and development, large supply chain and production capabilities, Victoria is the natural home of military vehicles.
Victoria is also home to the Land Systems Division of the Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group, the principle buyer of military vehicles and other land based systems for the Department of Defence. Major vehicle programs located in close proximity to Land Systems Division areas eases and enhances the day-to-day interaction between the buyer and the supplier of these programs, strengthening their relationship and deepening the cooperation between defence and industry, a key tenant of the Commonwealth’s 2016 Defence Industry Policy Statement.
Victoria is extremely well placed to undertake a continuous build program over 20-30 years and is committed to successfully delivering the Australian Defence Force requirements for LAND 400 Phase 2, LAND 400 Phase 3, as well as the protected vehicle replacement program.
