Wrap up of the PACIFIC 2017 International Maritime Expo

The Victorian Government Pavilion at PACIFIC 2017

The Victorian Government was proud to host around 20 Victorian SMEs and defence industry associations on its pavilion at this year's PACIFIC expo. The pavilion was in a high profile location and received a lot of foot traffic, including visits from Ministers Payne and Pyne and the Hon Richard Marles MP, who stopped by to chat with some of our SMEs.

During PACIFIC 2017, Victorian Defence Industry Advocate, Greg Combet, members of the Defence Council Victoria and Victorian Government representatives had meetings with a range of industry CEOs and Department of Defence officials to discuss their future plans and potential opportunities for Victorian SMEs. As part of broader activity surrounding PACIFIC, representatives from the Victorian Government also met with delegations from Virginia, Sweden, France and Denmark.

Victorian news announced during PACIFIC 2017 included:

  • Danish global prime Terma signed an MOU with Marand. The two companies agreed to explore, identify, and discuss specific areas of mutual interest as part of Terma’s commitment to supporting Australian Industry Capability.
  • Thales Australia CEO Chris Jenkins, and Cablex CEO, Michael Zimmer, signed a contract for the delivery of electrical harnesses for Thales’s Hawkei Protected Mobility Vehicle-Light. This will create 40 new full time jobs and sustain 10 over the life of the project at Cablex’s facility at Bentleigh East in Victoria.

PACIFIC 2017 was a busy and successful event for both our SMEs and our department representatives. A big thank you and congratulations to our hardworking events team: Corey Limon-Durand, Megan Skillecorn and Natalie Ralphs. Thank you also to the team of Victorian SMEs who joined us in the Victorian Government pavilion and to all department representatives who attended.
